Hi! My name is Jane, and I am a student at UVIC. I am in my second year of the Elementary Education Program, where I am learning how to be a teacher. The journey has been exciting and terrifying! There is so much more I need to learn in order to get ready (if you can ever truly be ready) to create a safe and supportive learning environment for my future students.

Apart from being a student, I am an avid hobby collector. From a very young age I have been experimenting and trying out different skills – whatever I could get my hands on! These hobbies have ranged from mosaics, watercolours, acrylics, oils, drawing, gymnastics, dance, horses, raising chickens, soap making, cooking, chocolateering, cake decorating, hiking, fishing, camping, rock collecting, bug collecting, and so much more! When I was six years old I saw the movie Barbie in a Mermaid Tail and had dreams of becoming a professional surfer, and saved up all of my chore money for months so that I could buy my very own surfboard (even though I grew up in land-locked Alberta)! Like I said, I have been trying out anything I could, reasonable or not!

As I’ve gotten older I’ve narrowed down my hobbies and found out what I am truly passionate about. When I’m not in school I like to spend most of my time enjoying the outdoors or in the kitchen. Having grown up on the prairies in Southern Alberta, moving to Vancouver Island has been magical! I miss the big sky at home but love exploring the beaches, mountains, and forests that I am so blessed to live near.
